Alfonso Hernandez Jr, 48, passed away unexpectedly on August 4, 2023. His family is deeply saddened by his sudden death.
Al was born October 5, 1974, to Alfonso and Delia Hernandez in San Benito, Texas. He was the oldest of 3 children and known to his family as “Rookie.” His friends knew him as Al or Fonzie who surely all have a story to tell of his shenanigans. Everywhere he went he made new friends with is sense of humor, enormous heart, and his way of always leaving an impression. Al kept people rolling in laughter because he could find humor in the most ordinary life circumstances. Al’s pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met. He could bring a smile to your face and laugh along at you and with you. He had a great sense of humor, and he had many stories to tell that sometimes just made no sense.
He was a devoted father and grandfather who created countless unforgettable happy, funny memories. The love he had for his 7 children and 2 granddaughters was like no other. There is not a thing he would not do for any of them. Although he was a stubborn, stern man his family knew how much he loved and adored them by his gestures and time spent together as family. His role as a grandfather was exemplary. He was the happiest when he was with Julie and Eli and kept him on his toes.
5 years ago, his life changed due to illness and was forced to retire. He had been coaching soccer, basketball, and football in the past for his son and daughters’ teams. He began coaching his son’s soccer team when he was 4 years old, 15 years ago with AYSC. Regardless of his health he continued to show up and coached, refusing to let his health take everything he loved. His love for coaching led him to coach 2 years of football and 7 years of basketball. Over his many years of coaching, he has made an impact on many and would like to send a special thank you to AYSC for their support and contributions. AYSC will be hosting a soccer tournament “The Alfonso Hernandez Punisher Memorial Tournament” in his honor shows the dedication to the league does not go unnoticed.
Al joins his dad (Alfonso Hernandez), mom (Delia Hernandez), and brother (Julian Hernandez) in heaven, where they are sure to be spending their days loving and watching over their entire family who miss them tremendously.
Al is survived by his wife Priscilla; children Summer (Victor) Partida, granddaughters Julianna and Elianna Cantu, Victoria (Jesse) Hernandez, Amanda (Troy) Stein, Angelina (Bryan) Garza, Cecilia Hernandez, Christian Hernandez, and Arianna Hernanez; sister Heather Hernandez and 7 nieces and nephews, 10 grand nieces and nephews; in laws Roanne (Gilbert) Perez and Bernabe Martinez Jr.; sister in law Katherine Martinez, 1 niece and 1 nephew, brother in law Gilbert (Clarissa) Perez, 1 niece and 1 nephew: numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his stories and hilarious sense of humor. He truly brought life to the party. Al was loved by so many. His positive outlook, generous spirit, and kind heart left an impression wherever he went. He never met a stranger that didn't quickly become a friend; he always went out of his way to help anyone in need. He had an ability to give everyone a nickname that perfectly captured the person or changed their name just because he could. A Celebration of Life and Bar-B-Q to be held and details will be announced at his service. Please if he touched you in any way, please stop by and share your memories.
