Alfredo “Tay” Arnulfo Huerta, 75, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, October 18, 2025, at Valley Baptist Medical Center, surrounded by his beloved family. A lifelong resident of Harlingen, Alfredo was the pillar of the Huerta family and now has gone to his eternal resting place in Heaven.
Alfredo was born on March 22, 1950, in McAllen, Texas to Paulino Huerta, Sr. and Guadalupe R. Huerta. He was raised in San Benito, where he learned the values of hard work, faith, and family principles that would guide him throughout his life. He later made his home in Rio Hondo, where he and his wife Josefina Torrez Huerta raised their four daughters with love and a strong foundation in Catholic faith. After 20 years, Alfredo and his family moved to Harlingen, where he continued to build a life centered on service, prayer, and family unity.
Alfredo was a gifted and talented master carpenter that didn’t take his gift from God for granted. He created unique, handcrafted pieces that blended artistry with purpose. He took great pride in his craft, not only for the structures he created, but for the lives he touched along the way. He was a mentor to others that was always willing to share his knowledge, lend a helping hand, and offer words of encouragement. His work reflected his soul—steady, selfless, and strong-willed.
More than anything, Alfredo was a family man. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Josefina, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Their love was a testament to faithfulness and partnership, rooted in mutual respect and a shared devotion to God. Together, they raised four daughters: Josie Huerta Gonzalez (Eddie), Yzenia Huerta (William), Alma Gloria Huerta Gonzalez (Josue Omar), and the late Alma “Almita” Gloria Huerta. Alfredo was a proud and loving grandfather to nine amazing grandchildren and two great grandchildren, each of whom he adored and cherished. His eyes would light up in their presence, and he never missed an opportunity to offer them his wisdom, his laughter, never-ending support, and his unconditional love. He is also survived by his two brothers Ruben Huerta and Horacio R. Huerta, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paulino Sr. and Guadalupe R. Huerta; daughter, Alma “Almita” Gloria Huerta; brothers, Paulino "Polin" Huerta Jr., Jose "Pepe" Huerta, and Alejandro "Cano" Huerta; sisters, Gloria Alisa Huerta and Delia H. Garza.
Alfredo was a man of extraordinary kindness and selflessness. A man of integrity, resilience, and strength, Alfredo approached every day with purpose and gratitude. He lived not for himself, but for others. If someone needed help, he would drop everything to be there, no questions asked. He was the kind of man who made you feel safe just by being near, who offered comfort with a simple smile, and who led by example through quiet acts of love and sacrifice. His home was always open, his heart always full.
His Catholic faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where he attended Mass regularly and prayed with deep devotion. He found strength in the sacraments and peace in prayer. His faith was not just something he believed; it was something he lived. He taught his family to trust in God, to serve others, and to live with gratitude and grace.
Alfredo’s life reflected Christ’s love—humble, generous, and steadfast. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, integrity, and compassion that will continue to guide his family for generations to come. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit lives on in the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the prayers he offered. His remarkable faith and unwavering support for his loved ones will be deeply missed. Alfredo was a wonderful, loving, and devoted father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin & friend who will be FOREVER loved & NEVER forgotten.
His legacy is etched forever in the family he so deeply loved, and the steadfast faith that guided his every step. He taught us to see the beauty in life, to find strength in the face of hardship, and to hold tight to the love that binds us together. While our hearts ache in his absence, we find solace in knowing he is now in Heaven, reunited with his beloved daughter “Almita” Together again, they watch over us, and their love will forever be our guiding light as we carry his light forward living as he lived, giving as he gave, and loving as he loved.
