Alice Pauline “Polly” Withers Bloom was born in Harlingen, Texas, on October 10, 1929, to Hetti Alice and Alonzo Thomas Withers.
Polly attended Stuart Place School through 8th grade, then moved with her parents to Kerrville, Texas, and graduated from Tivy High School in 1946. She attended Durham Business School in Austin and returned to Harlingen in 1947 to work at First National Bank of Harlingen, which later became Bank of America. She retired from Bank of America in 1993. Her working career started out as a bank teller and throughout the years advanced to the position as an executive assistant for Col. Bill Card former president of B & A and Mayor of Harlingen.
She and Warren Bloom married in 1952, and they had two sons, Douglas and Donald Bloom.
Polly is survived by her sons, Douglas Bloom of Harlingen and Donald Bloom of South Padre Island; her granddaughter, Katherine Bloom of California; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; her parents, Hetti A. and Alonzo T. Withers; her brothers, George Withers in 1988, Charles Robert “Bobby” Withers in 1992, and James Arthur Withers in 2019; and her sisters, Betty Jane Kutzenberger in 1994, Sarah Kathryn Hampton in 2008, and Mary Stringfield in 2024.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, January 19, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at. Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service and interment at 11:00 a.m. at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
