Andres "Andy" Rene Rodriguez

Andres “Andy” Rene Rodriguez, 50, passed away on August 28, 2026, in Harlingen, Texas.

Andy was the beloved son of Reynaldo and Roberta Rodriguez and brother to Veronica Rodriguez and Gabriel Rodriguez. He was a proud uncle to Scott, Alexis, Cruz, and Riggs, whose lives and accomplishments brought him great joy.

Andy was intelligent, quick-witted, endlessly curious, and well known for his sarcastic sense of humor. He could talk to just about anyone, and he genuinely enjoyed a good conversation—or, perhaps more accurately, a good debate. Some of his favorite times were spent in the kitchen with his parents, where conversations could seemingly go on forever. History, food, family, academia, music, Aggie football, the Astros, and whatever other subject happened to come up were all fair game. Andy always had something to contribute and usually an opinion to go along with it.

A proud Texas Aggie, Andy earned both a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science and a Master of Science in Public Health from Texas A&M University. During his years at Texas A&M, he was a member of the Corps of Cadets, Company D-2, and competed on the collegiate trap and skeet team. His time at Texas A&M was an important part of who he was, and his love for the Aggies remained with him throughout his life.

Following his education, Andy built a career representing several orthopedic medical device companies before later founding his own company, RGV MedSurgical. His dedication to serving his patients was immense. Andy was known to drive the Rio Grande Valley from end to end, sometimes twice in a single day, to make sure his patients received the care and support they needed.

Andy loved the outdoors, particularly fishing and hunting. Some of his most cherished time was spent fishing the Lower Laguna Madre. He taught his brother how to fish and operate a boat, passing along a love for the water that the two would share. For Andy, a successful day of fishing often didn’t end when the boat came back to shore. He loved taking the day’s fresh catch into the kitchen and preparing dinner for family and friends. Cooking was something Andy took pride in, and he enjoyed playing the role of gourmet chef almost as much as he enjoyed sharing the meal and conversation that followed.

His interests were as varied as his conversations. Andy was an avid outdoorsman and, later in life, became a muscle car enthusiast. He also had a keen interest in the stock market and became a savvy day trader. Whether discussing markets, history, cars, food, or any number of subjects, Andy’s curiosity and intelligence were always evident.

Family was especially important to Andy. He took a genuine interest in the lives of his nephews and niece and was proud of them. He especially loved talking with his brother about his nephews’ baseball and football games—wanting to know how they played, how the team did, and what was coming next.

Andy was Roman Catholic and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Those who knew Andy will remember far more than his accomplishments or hobbies. They will remember his intelligence, his sarcasm and humor, his curiosity, the conversations that could last for hours, days on the water, meals around the table, and his ability to talk with just about anyone.

Andy was a beloved son, brother, uncle, Aggie, outdoorsman, and friend. The lessons he taught, the conversations he started, the meals he shared, and the memories he created will remain with those fortunate enough to have known and loved him.

The Rodriguez family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Funeral services will conclude after the Mass.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Gabriel Rodriguez, Caleb Fields, Scott Linschoten, Richard Munoz, Jeff Smith, David Ocker. Honorary pallbearers are Alexis Linschoten, Cruz Rodriguez, Riggs Rodriguez, Michael Linschoten, and Martin R. Vera.
