Arnoldo Peña

Arnoldo Peña peacefully passed from this life on January 1, 2022 at 69 years of age. He was born to Rodolfo G. Peña and Lydia Perez Peña on July 27, 1952 in San Benito, Texas.

He was co-owner of Peña Service Station in San Benito for 40 years until his retirement. Arnoldo began working with his father at an early age and helped run the family’s business until it closed in 2002. After retiring, he spent his days helping his late uncle, Ruben Peña, and visiting his mother twice a day. In his spare time, he worked in his yard, recycled cans in his neighborhood, and maintained his truck. He was a lifetime Dallas Cowboys fan.

Arnoldo was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Harlingen.

Left to treasure his memory is Arnoldo’s mother, Lydia Peña; siblings, Sylvia Casares, Maria Elena Peña, and Ricardo Peña, all from Harlingen; nieces and nephews, Cindy Castillo, Ruben Casares Jr., Laura (Michael) Cavada, and Logan Peña. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rodolfo G. Peña.

The Peña family wishes to thank the staff of Retama Manor Nursing Center, East Wing and the staff of Kindred Hospice for their compassionate care. The also wish to express their gratitude to family and friends who visited, called, sent cards and gifts, as well as to all the prayer warriors who lifted Arnoldo in prayer.

Arnoldo’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock. (Click the link below to view a live-stream of the Rosary.)

On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, viewing will continue from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Rev. Fr. Alejandro Flores, Celebrant.

Following the Mass, Arnoldo will be laid to rest a Mont Meta Memorial Park. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Rick Peña, Ruben Casares Jr., Rey de la Fuente, Duncan Klussmann, Michael Cavada, Fermin Peña, and Jesús Garcia. Matthew J. Castillo and Logan Peña will serve as honorary pallbearers.
