Benito Canales passed quietly surrounded by family and loved ones on Saturday March 9, 2024. He was born to the late Juanita Guerrero and Jorge Canales, Sr on December 19, 1931 in San Benito, Texas.
Benito joined the United States Air Force upon turning 18 years of age where he was a Special Police Lieutenant. He joined the Department of Defense at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico with 42 years of service.
Upon retirement, Benito, fondly known as Benny to his friends and family, moved to San Benito, Texas to make his home among his loved ones, family, and friends. Among Benny’s favorite pastimes were fishing with his son Raymond, listening to “la musica de conjunto”, enjoying Raymond’s delicious BBQ and most especially would spend hours sitting and chatting with family and friends about the good ole days, stories that brought warmth and laughter to our hearts. Benny will be remembered as never resisting telling a good joke, a great story and most of all a stunning surprising punch line and a good hearty laugh to boot!
Benny attended St. Benedict Catholic Church in San Benito, Texas and, when possible, The Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle in San Juan Texas.
Benito is preceded in death by his father, Jorge Canales, Sr, his mother Juanita Guerrero, his first wife, Juanita Canales, his daughter Janie Canales, his brother Gilberto Canales, Sr, his sisters Irma Canales Garcia and Elva Canales Benavides.
