Bernard "Bernie" Francis Barge

Bernard "Bernie" Francis Barge was 92 and living in Harlingen, Texas when he died on Sunday, July 6, 2025. Bernie was born in Hiawatha, Kansas on October 17, 1932. He married Mary Lou Dean April 13, 1951. He is survived by their three children, Vicky Logan, Glen (Vicki) Barge, and Valerie (Roy) Andersen; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

After 36 years of marriage, Mary Lou passed on March 23, 1987. He then married Phyliss (Jane) Dyer Brown on February 14, 1995. Jane passed after 24 years of marriage, on June 12, 2019.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rilas (Roy) and Alice (Van Dalsem) Barge, his four siblings, Donna Barge Denney, Norman Barge, Larry Barge, and Jerry Barge; his wives Mary Lou and Jane.

Bernie's first business was a trucking company which eventually evolved in to Bernie's Excavating. He retired the business in 1983. He continued to work part-time for his son, Glen, until he was in his late seventies.

After retiring in 1983 he traveled in his RV extensively and finally settled for "wintering" in Harlingen, Texas. After Jane's death, June 12, 2019, he became a full-time resident at Tropic Winds, in Harlingen, Texas. He enjoyed his many friends at Tropic Winds and was an avid card player, playing "Texas Holdem" his favorite game.

There will be a graveside service, at a date yet to be determined, at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, Kansas.
