Carlos “Charlie” Agado, age 64, entered eternal life on September 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife, sons, and brothers.
Born on January 13, 1961, to Manuel and Guadalupe “Lupita” Agado, Charlie was a man of deep faith and unwavering devotion to St. Therese Catholic Church. He served as an altar server, mowed the church grounds, and actively participated in the annual Church Bazaars. A gifted musician, he played guitar and sang with the 10 o’clock choir. He also served as a lector, was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, and participated in the St. Therese Young Adults Club.
As a teenager, Charlie hand-picked cotton and later advanced to operating a cotton picker tractor. He cherished family trips to the HEB Lodge in Kerrville with his cousins, where they enjoyed fishing and hiking. He continued this tradition with his own family, traveling to Arroyo City, South Bay, or anywhere near water. He loved a good barbecue, and hunting was another hobby he enjoyed. Time spent with family—telling jokes and sharing stories around the campfire—was among his greatest passions. He instilled in his sons a love for wildlife and a deep respect for nature.
Charlie had a lifelong interest in World War II, immersing himself in documentaries, memorabilia, and films. He graduated from San Benito High School, Class of 1979, and went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Animal Science and a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Arts and Sciences from UTB/TSC. His career included work on shrimp farms, serving as a manager at Trucker’s Equipment, employment with Cameron County, and ultimately retiring from the City of Harlingen.
He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Sr., and his niece, Christina Marie.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Maria Del Socorro; his four sons, Carlos Jr. (Anyssa), Michael Joseph, Nickolas, and Patrick Adam; his mother, Guadalupe; his brothers, Manuel Jr. (Cynthia), Ricardo Sr. (Martha), Diego Sr. (Patricia); and his honorary brother, Patrick Seitz. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Emma Riley and the anticipated arrival of Robin Elizabeth, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Agado family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 o’clock Sunday evening. A Mass of Christian of Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Charlie will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
