Carlos Garza

September 22, 1951 — March 23, 2021

Carlos Garza 69, passed peacefully from this life on March 23, 2021 with his family by his side.  He was born to the late Miguel Angel and Josefina Garza Pacheco on September 22, 1951 in Brownsville, Texas.

Carlos attended Brownsville High School.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army for 41 years.  He served in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. Carlos was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, and the National Defense Medal.

In his leisure time, Carlos enjoyed fishing, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel A. and Josefina P. Garza, and sister, Maria del Rosario Serrata.

Left to treasure his memory are his sons, Carlos (Erica R.) Garza, Jr., Eric Daniel Garza, and Bryan (Julie J.) Garza; grandchildren, Carlos Garza III, Annabella Garza, Bradley Garza, Clara Edith Garza; Theodora Noelle Garza; and brothers and sisters, Miguel (Leonor) Garza, Jr., Jesus (Gabriela) Garza, Sr., Maria Antonieta (Lucio) Cortinas, Margarita (Rey) Gonzalez, Enrique  Garza, Josie (Oscar) Maldonado; and his former spouse, Norma Garza.

Carlos’ family wishes to thank the Brooks Army Medical Center physicians and nurses who attended Carlos along with Dr. Todd Shenkenberg, MD and his caring staff in Harlingen, Texas.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.  A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock on Tuesday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Fr. Joe Villalón, Jr., Celebrant.  Carlos will be laid to rest with full military honors at 2 o’clock on Wednesday afternoon at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Carlos Garza, Jr., Erik Garza, Bryan Garza, Reynaldo Gonzalez, Sr., Enrique Garza, Jesus Garza, Jr., Eric Garza, and Oscar Maldonado.  Honorary pallbearers are Lucio Cortinas, Juan Jauregui, Pablo Rojas, and the members of Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 141st Infantry Regiment.
