Carmela S. Ramirez passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 13, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 77.

Carmela was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Angel L. Ramirez. Her parents, Manuel Sr. and Gertrudis (Tula) Sanchez and her sister Maria Luisa Burrola. Her in-laws, Rafael and Consuelo Ramirez, brothers-in-law Rene Ramirez, Sr., Marty Burrola, and Joe (Pepe) Ramirez, sisters-in-law Mary Sanchez, and Dinora Mendoza, and nephews Michael T. Sanchez, Matthew Sanchez, and Aaron Cruz.

Born on December 24, 1947, in San Benito, TX. Carmela was the daughter of Manuel Sr. and Gertrudis Sanchez. She was the fourth of six children. Carmela graduated from San Benito High School in 1966.

She is survived by her children: Cynthia (Jerry Garcia) Ramirez, Daniel (Beyda) Ramirez, and David (Estela) Ramirez. Her grandchildren Katelyn, Jason, Daniel Jr., Alexandria, and Alyssa Ramirez. She is also survived by her siblings: Manuel Jr. (Letty) Sanchez, Bertha (Rene+) S. Ramirez, George (Sally) Sanchez, Rosie (Juan) Zapata, and Arnoldo (Diane) Sanchez. Her in-laws, Irma (Cecilio Sr.+), Nina (Fred) Garza, Hilda (Lupe) Venecia, Minnie (Lupe) Garcia, Nellie (Beto Peña) Cortez, Noe Ramirez and many cherished nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her fur babies Jesse, Bella, Toby and Cheebo, whom always provided her with comfort and support.

Carmela worked for 20 years at Dolly Vincent Memorial Hospital in the Labor and Delivery Department where she helped in caring for many newborns as a nursing assistant. Later, she worked at San Benito Medical Associates for nearly 25 years until her retirement in 2013.

She met and fell in love with Angel L. Ramirez. They married on June 20, 1966 and moved to Aurora, Illinois where they started their family and later moved back to San Benito. She was very proud of her three children and her grandchildren. She attended many of their activities and functions throughout the years.

Carmela was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt, sister-in-law, and friend. She was an avid gardener, crocheter, and an awesome baker. She loved to bake all kinds of sweets, especially during the holidays which included, cakes, pies, buñuelos and candies, just to name a few. She enjoyed crocheting kitchen towels and cellphone holders for friends and family, as well as scarves and beanies. She enjoyed all things outdoors including fishing, camping, gardening and barbequing.

Carmela was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in San Benito. She served as an Extra Ordinary Eucharistic minister, a member of the Sacred Heart, and volunteered her time in cleaning the church as a member of the C.R.E.W. She also participated in various Bible studies.

The Ramirez family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Carmela will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Jason Ramirez, D.J. Ramirez, Arnoldo Sanchez, Micheal Cortez, Edward Sanchez and Joseph Ramirez. The following are recognized as Honorary pallbearers are as follows: Manuel Sanchez, Jr. George Sanchez, Tony Garcia, Arnoldo Garcia, Rene Ramirez, Jr., Ruben Ramirez and Ray Sanchez.

The Ramirez family would like to thank the following individuals for their care of Carmela: Dr. Norma Schacheral, Dr. Nabeel Sarhill and Texas Oncology staff, Dr. Farbod Malek and St. Theresa Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to St. Theresa Catholic Church in San Benito or American Cancer Society.

She will be dearly missed.
