Carmen Huerta passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, at the age of 87. She was born to Epifanio Cortez and Refugia Ventura Cortez on October 26, 1937, in San Benito, Texas
She worked at Levi Strauss & Company before joining Agua Cristalina Home Care, where she retired after twenty years of devoted service.
Carmen was a devoted Catholic and active member of St. Theresa Catholic Church. She enjoyed volunteering at the church’s annual Fall Festival. She loved dancing, thrifting, cooking, playing Chalupa, relaxing outside, cruising downtown San Benito, watching sports on TV, and crafting.
Carmen is preceded in death by her husband, Paulino Huerta, Jr.; her son, Paulino Huerta III; her great-granddaughter, Tiana Madison Huerta; her parents, Epifanio and Refugia V. Cortez; and her siblings, Jesús Gaona, Victor Gaona, Rodolfo Gaona, Soila Perez, Inez Cortez, and Rebecca Barrientos. She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law, Paulino Huerta Sr., and mother-in-law, Guadalupe R. Huerta.
Left to treasure her memory are Carmen’s children: son Guadalupe Jaime Huerta (wife, Sandra), daughter Sulema H. Rodriguez (husband, Esteban), daughter, Nelda Garza (husband Noe), son Manuel Roel Huerta; eight grandchildren, Paulino IV Huerta (wife, Tracy), Clarissa Valdez (husband, Joe), Jaime Huerta (wife, Jo Ann), Jeremy Huerta (wife, Giselle), Jacob Huerta, Angelica Huerta, Nadia Mena (husband Leroy Jr.), Nerissa Lopez (husband, Zeke), and daughter-in-law Mary Huerta (late husband, Paulino III). She is also survived by her brothers, Rogerio Cortez (late wife, Dolores), Rogerio Gil Cortez (late wife, Irma), Guadalupe “Walley” Cortez (wife, Guadalupe), and David Cortez (wife, Joyce); eighteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the excellent staff of Calidad Home Health, Sun Valley Rehab Center, and Valley Baptist Medical Center for their compassionate care and support.
The Huerta family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Carmen will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Noe Garza, Paulino Huerta IV, Jaime Huerta, Joe Valdez, Jacob Huerta, and Leroy Mena Jr. Manuel Roel Huerta and Guadalupe Jaime Huerta and Paulino Huerta V will serve as honorary pallbearers.
