Carolyn G. Burks

Carolyn Ann Groman Burks died at the age 54 at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen Texas on Saturday December 21, 2024. Carolyn was born in Weslaco Texas on February 22, 1970, to parents Paul and Elena Groman. 

She and her younger sister Rachel grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and often made mission trips to Mexico. On May 29, 1999, she was wedded in happy matrimony to Steven C. Burks with which she built her family. Carolyn earned both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in English arts, as well as a Doctorate of Education. With this education, she became an English teacher at South Texas College where she taught for 27 years. 

In her life, she enjoyed sewing, reading, and anything related to Star Wars as well as watching The Office and Lost. She treated those around her with much kindness and often put the needs of others before her own. 

Carolyn is survived not only by her mother, Elena, and sister, Rachel, but also by her loving husband, Steven, son, Noah, and daughter, Selah, all of which reside in the Rio Grande Valley. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul E. Groman. 

The viewing is closed casket and is to be held at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral home on 1400 Business 77, San Benito, TX on Friday, January 3, 2024, at 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The following day, the service will be held again at the Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral home at 11:00 am, (The service will be livestream:https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/index.php?data=MTczNTMyNjY5MTM0Mjg2MCZvbmVyb29tLWFkbWluJmNvcHlfbGluaw==). Livestreaming will begin at 10:55 a.m. Then she is to be buried in Rio Hondo Texas. There will be a reception at the First Church of the Nazarene 490 N. Crocket St. in San Benito Texas, after the burial.

This loving wife, mother, sister, daughter and dear friend will be missed immensely.
