Daniel J. Gutierrez

Daniel J. Gutierrez of Rio Hondo, TX peacefully entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 11, 2026. He was born on March 11, 1947 to Juan Gutierrez and Trinidad Juarez Gutierrez in Rio Hondo TX, where he was raised.

Daniel, also known by those closest to him as “Pelon” or “Boone,” carried a gentle, kind, and humorous spirit with him wherever he went and shared it with whoever he met. He was known for having an endless supply of jokes and using his witty humor to make people laugh, no matter the circumstance.

Those who knew him recognized his strong faith in the Lord and his heart for people. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War from 1967-1968, and considered it a great honor to lay down his life for others. He kept that same selfless spirit with him throughout his life, helping anyone who needed it, supporting his friends and family, and serving on the praise and worship team at Moses Mission church in Rio Hondo, TX.

Daniel was known for never staying in one place too long. He stayed busy doing what made him happy such as fishing, playing his accordion and harmonica, building his birdhouses, feeding his ducks, taking drives, tending to his garden, and thinking of new jokes to tell at the next gathering.

He will be remembered for his unwavering strength in the midst of chaos, his infectious laugh, his comforting hugs, and his unconditional love for his friends and family. A love that never faltered.

Daniel is preceded in death by his wife, Ester Gutierrez, his parents, Juan and Trinidad Gutierrez, and his brothers, Ramon Juarez and Abelardo J. Gutierrez.

Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Santiago Gutierrez (Felipa), Marcelino Gutierrez, Ester Cortez, Estela Molina, Ezekiel Gutierrez, and Maria Martinez; his children, Daniel Gutierrez Jr. (Ayleeng), Marie Vasquez (Edurado), Sonia Yvonne Fernandez (Luis), and Juan Manuel Gutierrez (Oralia), as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held at La Trinidad Assembly of God Church in Rio Hondo, TX on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 2:00pm to  9:00pm with a service to begin at 7:00pm.

Funeral service to begin at 10:00 am on Friday, April 17, 2026, at La Trinidad Assembly of God (500 Harrolds St, Rio Hondo, TX 78583) with interment to follow at Rio Hondo City Cemetery by the resaca.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Brandon Gonzales, Tristian Juan Gutierrez, Justin Jacob Gutierrez, Juan Daniel Gutierrez, Dustin Jaime Lopez, and Jesse Flores.

Honorary pallbearers are Ezekiel Gutierrez and Dexmon Vade Garcia.
