Daniel Lee Johnson

Daniel Lee Johnson, 67, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, at Veranda Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Harlingen, TX after a brave battle with health issues. Danny, Dan, or D.J., as he was known by his family and friends, was born in Ottawa, KS, on June 17, 1959, to Leon Johnson and Sharon Gragg Johnson.

Dan graduated from Melvern High School in 1977. He loved to play golf; he followed the Kansas City Chiefs and the KU Jayhawks sports. He was also in an 8-Ball league, a Dart league and enjoyed singing karaoke at the Hop Shop in Harlingen with his friends. He was employed at Bud’s Quality Plumbing for 31 years.

Daniel is survived by his father and stepmother, Leon and Rose Johnson of Burlington, KS; his mother, Sharon Gragg Johnson Gulyban of La Feria, TX; brothers Marty Johnson (Glyna) of Harlingen, TX, and David Johnson (Colleen) of Ashland, VA; three stepbrothers Richard Sharp (Tammy), Robert Sharp (Paula), and Shawn Sharp (Laura), all from Kansas; stepsister Glenda Bunkofske of Texas; three nephews, two nieces, one great-niece; his aunt Sheila O’rear (Bud); and cousins Sandy O’rear Magouirk (Mark) and Gary O’rear.

Dan was preceded in death by grandparents, Joe and Frances Johnson, Verlin and Leona Gragg; his brother, Eric Johnson; and stepfather, John Gulyban.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be announced at a later date.
