Daniel Lloyd Kerkow was born on February 25, 1949 to Raymond and Olive Kerkow (nee Grinnell) in Riverfalls, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Alton Perry, one sister and one brother.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Ines Kerkow, daughter Amanda (Mike) Kedrowski, grandson Benjamin, and three siblings, Marcy Weber, Gary Kerkow, and Jan Perry (Larry) Hofmann. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews and other family members, including friends.
Dan was a-jack-of-all-trades, excelling in wood working and restoration. He was a proud veteran from the Viet Nam era and served his country well. As a paratrooper, he was with the 101st Airborne Division and later transferred to the 173rd Airborne Division. He fought the battle of Dak To and it left a lasting impression on him. He was a soldier in life as well, including managing his lengthy illness with Maria always by his side.
The family will receive friends and relative on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 and on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock on Wednesday evening. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Daniel will be laid to rest with full military honors at 10:00 o’clock Thursday morning at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas.
