Luke 1:45- “Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her”.
Dolores Y. “Lola” Najera was born April 4th, 1939, in San Benito Texas to Pedro and Herlinda Ybarra also of San Benito. A lifelong resident of the Resaca City, Dolores will always be remembered for her unwavering Catholic faith and her devotion to her family.
Waiting for her in heaven is her husband of 68 years Antonio D. “Tony” Najera who passed away in 2016. One cannot be remembered without the other as they were always together be it a late-night meal at Whataburger or an early morning breakfast at Las Vegas Cafe. Dolores embodied what it meant to be a wife and mother.
In her lifetime she raised 3 daughters: Maria Estela (Juan Reyes) Garza, Velma Najera, and Alma (Paul) Donaghy. She also helped to raise her 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Though she only finished school up to the 8th grade, she showed tremendous school spirit by always encouraging her family to participate. Whether marching band, sports, cheerleading, or social clubs like the Homecoming court, she was her family’s number 1 fan and would attend events no matter the weather or distance.
A devout Catholic, Dolores attended St. Benedict’s Catholic Church where she volunteered in the office, taught Catechism to those getting ready to receive their first communion for 35 years and held prayer meetings at her home on a regular basis. A favorite mission trip of hers was to the Schoenstatt Shrine in Rockport Texas.
On October 17th, 2024, Dolores entered the kingdom of Heaven to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A celebration of life including the praying of the rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in San Benito on Saturday October 26th at 10:00 a.m. with the burial to follow at the San Benito Cemetery where she will finally be laid to rest next to her husband Antonio “Tony”.
Those left behind will always cherish the memories and legacy she left for us.
