Don Marvin Scogin

Don Marvin Scogin, 86, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, in San Benito, Texas. Born on January 28, 1940, in Brownsville, Texas, he was the son of John Marvin and Genevive Scogin.

Don graduated from San Benito High School in 1958 and pursued higher education at Texas Christian University (TCU) and Southwest Texas State University (SWT), where he played college football. He also played professionally for one year with the Houston Oilers. In addition to his athletic career, Don honorably served his country as a corporal in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Don was a gold member of FFA and 4H in San Benito. He was a faithful attendee of the Church of Christ and the First Baptist Church. In his leisure time, Don enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by her parents, John Marvin and Genevive Scogin; and his siblings, Molly Scogin, Sally Scogin, Mike Scogin, Jim Scogin, and John Mark Scogin.

Don is survived by his wife, Julia Scogin; two sons, Shane Scogin (Minnie) and Eric Scogin (Rosie); his grandchildren, Ryan Scogin, Dillon Scogin, Trey Scogin; and his great grandson, Hunter Scogin.

The Scogin family will receive friends and family on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., in the funeral home chapel. Following the service, Don will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial with full military honors.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Shane Scogin, Eric Scogin, Ryan Scogin, Dillon Scogin, and Trey Scogin. Honorary pallbearers are Conrado Huerta, Sr. and Conrado Huerta, Jr.
