It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Lane Walker, who left us peacefully surrounded by her children on July 8, 2025, at the age of 78. Elizabeth was born on March 3, 1947, to D.Q. Squyres and Zadie Marie Hawkins Squyres.
Throughout her life, Elizabeth lived in various locations across Texas and spent part of her childhood on Kwajalein. She graduated from Aransas Pass High School in 1964 and later married her true love, Ronnie Wade Lane. The couple eventually settled in San Benito, Texas, where they established their family roots.
As a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Elizabeth was a homemaker and a long-serving secretary at Baptist Temple Church, where she dedicated many years to children’s and youth ministries. Later in her career, she had the profound impact of becoming an ESL teacher at Valley Baptist Academy, serving as a second mother to countless students. Additionally, Elizabeth was a Lifetime Member of Beta Sigma Phi, contributing in various capacities within the sorority.
Known for her radiant spirit and loving heart, Elizabeth embraced all those around her with genuine warmth and affection, and her hugs were memorable expressions of her love. She found joy in cooking and entertaining, always welcoming friends and family with open arms. Her creativity shone through in her passions for crocheting and sewing, with every handmade blanket and stitch made with love. Elizabeth treasured quiet moments spent on the back patio connected to nature, reading a good book, and engaging in Bible study with close friends. Above all, her greatest joy stemmed from the time spent with her family, a bond filled with deep love that will be cherished forever.
Elizabeth's life was a testament to her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is survived by her daughter, Latisha Lane Young (Paul J Young III), her granddaughter, Courtney Leigh, her son, Lancer Lee Lane (Brent E Kirby), her sisters-in-love, Patricia Squyres and Betty Shipman, her brother-in-love, Dale Lane, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 40 years, Ronnie Wade Lane, her parents, D.Q. Squyres Jr. and Zadie Marie Hawkins Squyres, her brothers, D.Q. Squyres III and Clarence Squyres, and her parents-in-love, Jesse Woodrow Lane and Edna Earl Cardwell Lane.
The Lane family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
