Evelyn Rebecca Hudson

Evelyn Bolton Hudson was born Oct. 28, 1924, in Wolfe City, Texas. She died peacefully at home in Harlingen, Texas, on Sept. 26, 2026, just over a month shy of her 102nd birthday.

Evelyn and Al, her husband of 67 years, raised their children in the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas. They were members of the Church of Christ.

Evelyn always worked hard. In her younger years, she was a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell, which is how she met Al. She also helped run their family farm and she owned Evelyn’s Frame and Art Supplies in McAllen, where she enjoyed hosting guest artists and giving lessons. Evelyn cherished her family and close friends. She loved to travel but never stayed away from Texas too long. She also found joy in capturing the beauty of the places she loved through her paintings, especially the Texas landscapes that meant so much to her.

She is survived by her three loving daughters, Brenda, Debbie and Raylene; sisters, Angellen Brown and Jane Borchardt; brother-in-law, James Brown; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al; and granddaughter, Denee.

The family would like to thank everyone at Golden Palms Retirement Center for the kindness, compassion and care they showed Evelyn.

Visitation and a short service will be Friday, Oct. 2, from noon to 2 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home in San Benito, followed by a graveside service at Raymondville Memorial Park at 3:00 p.m.
