Florestela (Lerma) Garcia

Florestela Lerma García, 80, surrounded by her loving family, peacefully passed from this life on June 21, 2021.  She was born to the late Domingo Lerma and Otilia Cavazos Lerma on August 11, 1940 in Brownsville, Texas.

Florestela was preceded in death by her husband, Ramiro García; her parents, Domingo and Otilia C. Lerma; daughters, Sylvia Burlingame and Duelsa Paz; and granddaughter, Veronica Peña.

Left to treasure her memory are her children, Otilia (David) De La Paz, Norma (Franklin Jr.) Painter, San Juanita (Rudy) Vásquez, Ramiro (Corina) García, Eliseo (Melisa) García, Olaya Garcia, Rolando (Mayte) Garcia, Ricardo (Emily) García, 28 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren; siblings, Manuel Lerma, Sonny Lerma, Otilia García, Dolores Espíndola; sisters-in-law, Norma Lerma, Diana Lerma, and Juanita Lerma, sons-in-law, David Burlingame, José Paz; and close friends, Frances Zepeda and Rose Ramírez.

The family wishes to thank everyone involved in Florestela’s care. “We cannot express enough gratitude for everyone’s tender and gentle care given to her.”

The Garcia family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, June 25, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.  A recitation of the Holy Rosary led by the Rev. Msgr. Pedro Briseño will begin at 6 o’clock on Friday evening. (Click the link below to view the Rosary via live-stream.) A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Los Fresnos, Rev. Msgr. Pedro Briseño, Celebrant. Following the Mass, Florestela will be laid to rest at Los Cuates Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Joel Ramos, Arturo García, Rolando García, Cristian Peña, David De La Paz Jr., Darren Killian, Peter Loera, and LeeRoy Martínez.  Honorary pallbearers are Florestela’s sons, Ramiro Jr., Eliseo, Rolando, and Ricardo García, David Burlingame, and José Paz.
