Frances Faye Schmidt, surrounded by her family was freed of her earthly bonds on Friday evening, September 5, 2025.
Faye was raised in Harlingen, Texas by her loving and doting parents, Grady and Cynthia Whittle. As a child she was active and loved to play outside. Climbing trees, riding horses, and curling up with a good book were a few of her favorite past times. Faye proudly attended Harlingen High School. Soon after graduation she met Billy Schmidt and they had a whirlwind courtship that led to a long marriage. They loved each other and brought four beautiful children into the world. Considered her crowning achievement, Faye devoted her life to the care of her children and household. Throughout the years she also helped raise and nurture her many grandchildren. Her big heart and quick smile will always be remembered.
In her later years Faye worked in the nursery at the First Baptist Church in Harlingen where she touched countless lives. We have joked that mother helped raise half of Harlingen. Later she found a church home at the Cowboy Church of Santa Rosa. She took her job as greeter there very seriously. She told anyone that would listen that she was the best greeter there…Faye was always good for a hug and a laugh.
In her final years she suffered from dementia. Her family grieved as she slipped away little by little. Any loss of this magnitude is devastating, but our hearts are comforted with the knowledge that she is whole and healthy again. She’s watching over all of us and sending her love.
Faye is preceded in death by her parents Grady and Cynthia Whittle, and husband William (Billy) Schmidt. She leaves behind her children Cyndie (Dale) Murden, Joey (Trisha) Schmidt, Mike (Shelly) Schmidt and Nicky (Sean) Brashear. Grandchildren Christopher (Sarah) Haden, Alix (Bryan) Kendall, Hannah Schmidt, Sara (Jake) Bridges, Lindsey (Dale) Boss, Grady Brashear, Kathryn Brashear and Samantha Brashear. Also survived by numerous great grandchildren and loving family members.
