Fred A. Harnish

November 27, 1947 — December 21, 2025

Fred A. Harnish, age 78, of Rio Hondo, Texas, passed away on December 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Born on November 27, 1947, in North Platte, Nebraska, he was the son of Gloyd and Virginia Harnish.

Fred graduated from Bellevue Senior High School in Bellevue, Nebraska, in 1966 and furthered his education at Bellevue University, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1991. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Radioman RM3 from 1967 to 1973 aboard the USS Hancock (CVA-19), where he supported the Attack Carrier Airwing (CVW-21). His dedication to duty and bravery earned him commendations during his service.

In March 1969, Fred married Linda, and they shared a loving partnership for 56 years. He began his career at AT&T in 1973 and later retired as a supervisor for Lucent Technologies in 2000.

Fred was known for his remarkable handyman skills, taking great pleasure in repairing anything from small appliances to vehicles and constructing furniture, screened porches, and covered boat docks. His willingness to assist others was a testament to his character. In retirement, he enjoyed an active lifestyle by helping his community, participating in karaoke, and fishing in the Arroyo Colorado, where he felt closest to God while watching the sunrise.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gloyd and Virginia Harnish and his brother, Rodney Harnish. Fred is survived by his wife, Linda Harnish; his daughter, Jody Fenton (Bill); son, Jeremy Harnish (Sabrena); grandchildren, Dillon Harnish, Anthony Harnish and Liam Fenton; his siblings, Don Harnish (Laurie) and Janet Casement (Doug); and his nieces and nephews, Jamee Grimes, Jauna Casement, Jake Casement, Keeley Harnish, Patrick Harnish, Jarod Harnish, Kristina Harnish, and Jennine Pike.
