Gilberto Sanchez

Gilberto Sanchez, age 69, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 16, 2025, at Valley Baptist Hospital. A loving father and husband, Gilberto lived a life defined by devotion to his family, his country, and the many passions that brought him joy.

Born into a large and caring family, Gilberto was blessed with many loving brothers and sisters, and he is survived by his mother, Maria, who continues to cherish his memory. His late wife, Ofelia Sanchez, preceded him in death on July 7, 2020. Their marriage was a partnership built on commitment, strength, and warmth.

Gilberto proudly served in the United States Navy for 26 years, retiring with honor after a distinguished career. His dedication to his nation reflected a character that was steadfast, resilient, and deeply principled.

A man with a gentle heart, Gilberto adored animals of all kinds, whether caring for chickens, horses, cows, and pigs, or finding comfort in the calming companionship of dogs and fish. He also had a passion for motorcycles, embracing the freedom and peace he found on the open road.

Gilberto is survived by his children, Jesse Burleson and Getina Marr. He leaves behind four cherished grandchildren who will grow up hearing stories of their grandfather’s kindness, dry humor, and unwavering loyalty.

A funeral service honoring Gilberto’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home, with full military honors in recognition of his long and faithful service to his country.

Gilberto Sanchez will be remembered for the love he freely gave, the strength he quietly carried, and the legacy he leaves behind in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace alongside his dearest Ofelia.
