Gloria Ninfa Torres, 87, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, in Rio Hondo, Texas. Born on March 5, 1939, in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, she was the daughter of Juan Varela and Leonarda Hernandez.

A devoted member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church, Gloria treasured spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren.

Gloria was preceded in death by her son, Rosendo Torres Jr; her siblings, Irma Varela, Consuelo Varela, Esperanza Torres, Ruben Varela; and by her parents, Juan and Leonarda Varela.

She is survived by her husband, Rosendo Torres; children, Sigifredo Torres and his children Raquel Torres and Leonardo; Nora Garcia (Ruben Garcia) and their children, Ruben Garcia Jr., Ruby Ann Garcia, Ricardo Garcia, Riana Garcia; Maria Torres (Juan Barrientos) and their children, Ashley torres, Jonathan Barrientos; Bertha Torres (David Contreras) and their children, David Contreras III, Stepanie Contreras, Derek Contreras; San Juanita “Janie” Torres and her children, Allen Torres, Casey Shorter, Ryan Baker; Gloria Le and her children, Sean Le, Nathan Le, Samantha Le; and Elizabeth Torres; and her grandchildren, Rosendo’s children Aaron Torres, Evan Torres, Isaac Torres, Tatania Torres as well a her great grandchildren, Earl Marlow Wiggins, Ruben Garcia III, Natalie Garcia, Radahn Hernandez, Clara Grace Shorter, Amira Celine Le, Mateo Torres, and Camila Torres. Also surviving are her siblings, Alberto Varela (Celia Varela), Misael Varela (Enedelia), Eloy Varela (Matilde), Lucrecia Varela, Heleo Varela (Estephania), Oralia Gomes (Hermilo) and Jaime Varela (Enedina).

The Torres family will receive family and friends on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Services will conclude Friday evening.
