Guadalupe (Zapata) Martinez

March 15, 1932 — March 11, 2022

Guadalupe Z. Martinez, 89, went home peacefully in her sleep on March 11, 2022, four days shy of her 90th birthday.  She was born in Los Fresnos, Texas on March 15, 1932.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Fidel Martinez; son, Rodolfo “Rudy” Z. Martinez; grandson, Orlando Enrique Garza; parents, Alfonso and Paula Zapata; and brother, Julian Zapata.

We were BLESSED and are GRATEFUL for having had our mom for 89 years.

For those that knew her, we know you would always feel Mom’s love, even with strangers.  She would never leave you without her blessing, that is the kind of mom we had. Her signature kiss to every one of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was “the kiss on our forehead”. She truly had the biggest heart of GOLD. You may now rest in peace, Mom, you have instilled the great faith in God to us all and with your blessing, and we will all be OK. Thank you for teaching us the importance of daily prayers. Mom, you did that so well. Save a place for us in heaven. Until we meet again.

We wish to thank Dr. Juan A. Maldonado, MD, Dr. Jason Peters, MD and, Ms. Marissa De Leon, PA & staff for their wonderful care for Mom throughout the years.

Guadalupe is survived by her children, Robert (Norma), Rick (Pat), Rosalinda Z. Martinez, Eddie (Lisa), Belinda (Henry) Garza, Brenda (Herb) Amaya, Ruby (Rene) Contreras, Lora (Barry) England. Our Mom also left a multiple of new generations, 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

The Martinez family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, March 13, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin Sunday evening at 7 o’clock. (Click the link below to view a livestream of the Rosary.)

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 14, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Guadalupe will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are her grandsons, Henry Garza Jr., Robert Garza, Abraham Amaya, Adam Amaya, Alfonso Martinez Hollenbeck, Patrick Martinez, Cody Martinez, and Eddie Martinez Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Martinez, Lorraine Martinez, Ashley Perez, Jessica Martinez, Brianna England, Camryn England, Kathryn Renee Contreras, Kristina Renee Contreras, Kassandra Renee Contreras, Alexandrea Rae Rodriguez, and Elizabeth Martinez.
