Guadalupe Olivarez Garcia

Lupita O. Garcia was 80 years old at the time of her death on September 4, 2021 in Harlingen, Texas. She was born on October 28, 1940 in Mercedes, Texas to Luz Cavazos Olivarez and Manuel Olivarez.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Luz Olivarez, husband, Ricardo Garcia, and brother, Daniel Olivarez.

She is survived by her children, Mirna Renee Garcia (Jorge Montiel), Lt. Col. (Ret.) Manuel Ricardo Garcia (Eunice Alina Solis Garcia), and Monica Ruth Garcia Silva (Benjamin Silva), grandchildren, Caleb Ricardo Garcia, Georgina Renee Montiel, Rebekah Savannah Garcia, Francesca Alina Giuliana Montiel, Evalynn Ruth Silva, and Luke Santos Garcia, brothers and sisters, Manuel Olivarez (Dora), Pedro Olivarez (Paula), Maria Pezeshki (Hossein), Lucinda Olivarez (Joe Cantu), and Bertha Morado (Alfredo-deceased), and brother-in-law, Ronnie Garcia (Diana). She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

After receiving a degree in Business Administration from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, she worked most of her life as a teacher in the Rio Hondo Independent School District. After retiring in 1998, she continued on as a substitute teacher until 2016. She greatly enjoyed spending time both volunteering and working at Rio Hondo Elementary.

The family would like to thank Juanita and Angel Alvarado, her “roommates”. We are so grateful to have had them helping her and caring for her. She loved and greatly appreciated their company. We would also like to thank Maria Hernandez for the wonderful care she gave to our mother the last few months of her life.
A memorial service will take place Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at Iglesia Presbiteriana Getsemani, 140 Diaz St., San Benito.

Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren, Caleb Garcia, Georgie Montiel, Bekah Garcia, Frankie Montiel, Evy Silva, and Luke Garcia.
