Higinio Bueno Guerra, Jr., 100, peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on August 19, 2022. He was born June 25, 1922 to the late Higinio Guerra, Sr. and Angelita Bueno Guerra in El Ranchito, Texas.
On September 21, 1941, at the age of nineteen, Higinio married the love of his life, Rosa Elena Garcia. Together, they had thirteen children. In 1945, he enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served for years. While in the service, he received several honorary medals.
After leaving the Army and throughout his life, Higinio traveled as a migrant worker with his family, moving to different areas, finally settling in Friona, Texas where they lived for several years. In 1993 or so, he and his wife moved back to San Benito, Texas. On September 13, 1995, Higinio suffered a devastating tragedy, the loss of his wife.
He continued his life without his beloved Rosa Elena, enjoying his family and friends. Family time was precious to Higinio.
On August 23, 2018, he suffered another devastating loss, the passing of his daughter, Ida G. Gonzalez. Higinio endured yet another loss on September 13, 2021 with the passing of his first grandson, Juan Louis Valdes.
Higinio is preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Elena Garcia Guerra, four children, a grandson, five brothers, and one sister.
Left to treasure his memory are Higinio’s daughters, Juanita (Andy) Cruz of Amarillo, Texas, Minnie (Fred) Raymond of San Benito, Texas, Dora (Alberto) Valadez of San Benito, Texas, Blanca (Xavier) Ortega of San Benito, Texas; his sons, Oscar (Minnie) Guerra of San Benito, Texas, José Guerra of San Benito, Texas, Antonio Guerra of San Benito, Texas, Noel (María) Guerra of San Benito, Texas, Adio (Carolina) Guerra of San Benito, Texas; forty-six grandchildren, one hundred nine great-grandchildren, and eighty-nine great great-grandchildren.
The Guerra family will receive relatives and friends Sunday, August 21, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A prayer service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Felipe Sanchez officiating.
Visitation will continue Monday, August 22, 2022 at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The funeral procession will depart Monday at 9:30 a.m. to Iglesia El Divino Redentor (735 W. Curtis Street, Harlingen, Texas) for the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Eli Zepeda officiating.
Following the service, Higinio will be laid to rest with full military honors at Las Rucias Memorial Cemetery, 15796 South US Highway 281, in Las Rusias, Texas.
