Irma C. Garcia, 84, of San Benito, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, April 29, 2022. She was born August 7, 1937, in San Benito, Texas to George and Juanita Canales.
Irma was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Ysmael “Red” Garcia; her son, Ismael “Smiley” Garcia Jr.; her loving granddaughter, Cynthia Marie Moody; her parents; her sister, Elva Benavidez; and her brother, Gilberto Canales, Sr.
She is survived by her daughter Blanca Vela (David); grandchildren Michael Moody Garcia (Jeannie), Smiley Garcia (Cara), Blair Pambianchi (Mitch), and Kimberly Vela; siblings, Benito Canales (Blanca), Julia Garza (Roberto), George Canales, Jr. (Ofelia); nephew, Raymond Canales (Jennifer); and numerous nephews, nieces, and great-grandchildren.
Irma helped her husband, Red, run his trucking business for more than four decades. She was a wonderfully devoted wife to Red and a loving mother to Blanca and Ismael Jr., as well as a caring grandmother to Smiley, Michael, Blair, and Kimberly.
She was a member of San Benito’s St. Benedict Catholic Church for many years; she loved reading the Bible and praying to Jesus. Irma was a homemaker with a bright sense of style. She enjoyed knitting, crochet, and spending time with her grandchildren, nephews and nieces. In her later years, she enjoyed reading, coloring, and sharing stories with loved ones.
Irma had a big heart and was dearly loved by all.
Irma’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, May 5, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin Thursday at 6:30 p.m. (Click the link below to view the Rosary via livestream.)
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 6, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Irma will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Raymond Canales, Michael Moody Garcia, Raul Garza, Gus Gonzalez, Rick Rodriguez, and Mando Gonzalez. Honorary pallbearers are David Vela, Smiley Garcia, Omar Lucio Jr., and Fernando Bazaldua.
