Irma Yolanda Olivo Salazar, 84, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024, in Harlingen, Texas. She was born on November 2, 1939, in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Francisco Olivo and Francisca Carranza Olivo.

A devoted member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and St. Benedict Catholic Church, Irma Yolanda found joy in reading, gardening, and bird watching during her leisure time.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Salvador Salazar; her parents, Francisco and Francisca Olivo; brothers, Arnulfo Olivo and Alberto Olivo; as well as her nephew, Jaime Olivo.

Left to cherish Irma Yolanda’s memory are her children: Patricia Rendon (Hector), Sylvia Rendon (Ruben), Edna Gutierrez (Rene), Martha Salazar, and Amalia Salazar; her grandchildren: Hector S. Rendon (Gisel), Homero Rendo (Karissa), Steven Rendon (Ashley), Veronica Guzman (Joe), Kathy Monayao (James), Omar Gutierrez, Edgar Gutierrez (Clara), Vanessa Gutierrez; her great-grandchildren: Tempe, Riley, Caleb, Evelyn, Endelyon, Arthur, Xavier, Mila Yolanda; and her beloved cat named Panther.

The family extends their gratitude to Dr. Rafael Lopez from San Benito Medical Associates, the doctors, nurses, and specialists from Valley Baptist Medical Center, Harlingen Medical Center, Acara Home Health Care for their unwavering dedication and compassionate care of their mother.

The Salazar family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, May 9th from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock Thursday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 10th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Irma Yolanda will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Steven Rendon, Omar Gutierrez, Edgar Gutierrez, Homero Rendon, Jose Guzman, and James Monayao.  Hector S. Rendon will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Benedict Catholic Church at 351 S. Bowie St., San Benito, Texas 78586 should you wish to honor Irma Yolanda's memory in this way.
