Jesús G. Rocha

March 13, 1947 — October 30, 2022

Jesús G. Rocha, 75, passed peacefully from this life surrounded by his family on October 30, 2022. He was born to the late Juan and Benita Rocha March 13, 1947 in Harlingen, Texas.

He was a proud graduate of Harlingen High School and a U. S. Air Force veteran. Jesús continued his studies at Pan American University in Edinburg from where he received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, and a Counseling Certificate. He went on to complete a Masters of Administration from Texas A&I University in Kingsville.

Jesús dedicated his life to serving children and their families as a professional educator. His career in education included teaching at Landrum Elementary School for ten years, serving as a school counselor at Kennedy Elementary School in Mercedes for nine years, and at Mercedes Junior High for one year. He also served as the principal of Rangerville Elementary School and was the last principal of Los Indios Elementary before its closing.

In 1993, he and his wife, Gloria, opened Spirit of Joy Christian Childcare Center in San Benito. The childcare center continues to serve the families of San Benito and surrounding communities.

His parents, Juan and Benita Rocha, and his sister, Juanita Rocha, preceded Jesús in death.

Left to treasure his memory is Jesús’ loving wife of forty-eight years, Gloria Carcano Rocha; his children, Joshua Rocha, Krystal Rocha Carvalho, David Carvalho, and grandson, Kekoa Carvalho; his siblings, José (Luisa) Rocha, Rodrigo (Alicia) Rocha, Roberto (Guadalupe) Rocha, Ruben (Olga) Rocha, Ricky (Bonnie) Rocha, and Linda (Gary) Carter. He will also be greatly missed by his best friends, David Martinez and Jim Good.

A celebration of Jesús’ life and legacy will take place Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. An inurnment ceremony will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park. Military honors will be rendered by the American Vietnam Veterans, Chapter 1, Honor Guard of Brownsville, Texas.
