Jimmy Mack Burke passed away on September 8, 2025, after a lengthy illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, O.F. and Melissa Lee Burke; his sisters, Betty and Lynelle Parkinson; his brother-in-law, Bill Brackmeyer; and his nephew, Brad Brackmeyer.
Jimmy leaves behind his loving wife Katy, of 69 years, together with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Baptized into Christ at an early age, Jimmy remained a faithful member of the 8th & Harrison Church of Christ throughout his life. He dedicated much of his career to contracting, becoming well known in the community for building several homes and remodeling countless others. A true man of many trades, Jimmy had a gift for repairing almost anything, and neighbors and friends often called on him for help with projects around their homes. He even built several boats and once operated his own restaurant, Jim’s Café.
Jimmy was admired for being a man of his word—hardworking, straightforward, and dependable—while also possessing a keen sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, bowling, and playing golf.
He lived most of his life in Harlingen, Texas, with the exception of his time in the Army and a decade in San Antonio, before returning home to be close to family and friends.
The Burke family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, September 11th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the 8th & Harrison Church of Christ. The service will begin at 10:00 o’clock Thursday morning. Following the service, Jimmy will be laid to rest at Harlingen-Combes Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Brackmeyer, William Brackmeyer, Brent Brackmeyer, Donald Byrd, Jim Day, and James Warner.
Donations in his memory may be made to Sunny Glen Children’s Home, 8th & Harrison Church of Christ, Gentiva Hospice, or the charity of your choice.
