Jimmy B. Simerly

July 23, 1936 — July 25, 2021

Jimmy B. Simerly of Harlingen, Texas went to be with the Lord on Sunday July 25th, 2021.  He was 85 years old and died at home of natural causes.  Jimmy was born on July 23rd, 1936 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Lee and Estella Simerly.  He married Della Turpin on June 1, 1956 in Rapid City, South Dakota and considered it his home.  Jimmy and Della were married 65 years.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Della Simerly, son, James (Carol) and a daughter Kathryn.  Also, by three grandchildren, Chris, Kristen, Kaitlyn, three great grandchildren, Knox, Kinsley and Kennedy, step granddaughter Megan Rynearson, and step great grandchildren Lydia, Skylar and Hayden.

In Jimmy’s “HAP” earlier life, he was one of the three who brought back the Gypsy Motorcycle Club and was Chairman of the Board and International President for many years. Jimmy graduated from the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service, Mu Cigna Alpha in 1962. He then became a Funeral Director and worked for many years at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home. His interests included being a Private Pilot, collecting guns, singing gospel music, and playing the guitar. Jimmy was a very kind person with a wonderful sense of humor and loved his family very much. He will be greatly missed.

There will be a celebration of Jimmy’s life on August 14, 2021 at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas at 10:00 AM.  For further information, contact the funeral home at (956) 291-4350.  There will also be a reception to follow at the Elks Lodge on 1426 Commerce St. Harlingen, Texas 78550 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
