John Thomas McGarry

October 19, 1934 — September 19, 2025

John Thomas McGarry, born October 19, 1934, in Trenton, New Jersey, to Rhoda and Frank McGarry.

In 1981, John accepted a position as purchasing manager at a prominent wholesale plumbing supply company in San Antonio, Texas. His passion for the state led him to a managerial role with a plumbing supply company in Harlingen, where he excelled until his retirement. Following his career, he pursued his love for remodeling homes, taking great joy in helping clients realize their dream projects. He fully embraced retirement three years ago to spend cherished time with family and enjoy his home.

John had a wide range of interests and talents. In addition to home remodeling, he crafted and designed Christmas figurines, earning awards for his imaginative displays. His adventurous spirit was reflected in his possession of a small aircraft pilot's license, and he enjoyed piloting sailboats and playing golf. Together with his wife, John cherished the opportunity to travel, visiting destinations in Europe, the Caribbean, and Mexico, and later enjoying cruise vacations after retirement.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Betty Jean McGarry, and their cherished son, Jack Hatala. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Mandee Diaz and husband Justin, Stephanie Buckalew and husband Buck, J.J. Lopez, as well as his great-grandchildren: Avi, Julius, Jaxson, and Noah.
