HARLINGEN:
John T. Walker Jr., 73, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Harlingen Medical Center.
John T. Walker Jr. “Johnny” was born in East Texas in the small province of New London located near Tyler. Amidst this small farming community, John T. and Pauline Norton Walker raised three boys: Robert, Melvin, and the oldest, John Jr. At the age of 9, John Jr. stepped off the school bus to find he had lost his 34 year old father to heart failure. Three years later John and his family moved to the valley to start over and stayed a short while in Lyford before moving to Harlingen in the early 1950s. He called the valley his home ever since.
John Jr. retired from William Cameron Wholesale, a division of CertainTeed, after 40 yrs of service. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Harlingen and often volunteered his time at Valley Baptist Medical.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Olivia T. Walker, whom never left his side, his eldest daughter, Jenny Kelly, and his youngest son, Jeremiah Walker.
My father was a great provider, enjoyed life, and was able to see his children grow. A simple cup of coffee or the bright faces of his children made him smile.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 6, 2007 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 7, 2007, 3 p.m., at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
