Jon L. Ites

Jon Ites, 75, peacefully passed from this life on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. He was born to the late Leon R. and Virginia (Jasperson) Ites on August 10, 1946 in Buffalo Center, Iowa.

Jon proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.  He attended Iowa State University and was a graduate of Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota. He was a Land Surveyor and served as County Engineer of Buena Vista County, Iowa for 22 years until his retirement.

In his leisure time, Jon enjoyed golfing and watching any sport on TV.  The activity of which he was most proud was being a member of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #856 in Harlingen, Texas.  He was also a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Harlingen.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Leon R. and Virginia J. Ites; his brother, William Ites; niece, Azur Gabrielson; and brother-in-law, Kenyon Gabrielson.

Left to treasure his memory is his loving wife, Sally Ites; his children, Matthew Ites (Kassandra Gray), Cristina Ites (Cody Hunter); stepchildren, Josh Schwartz (Becky), Siera Hilliard (David), Doug Bonnesen (Courtney Johnson), Kurtis Bonnesen (Ashlnn), Tiffany Bonnesen (Howard Henkelveg); grandchildren, Aiden Lee, Peytynn and Matthew Ites; Ethan, Lexi, and Jesse Cole, Kayden, Keagan, and Karli Schwartz, Payton and Audrey Hilliard, Brynlee and Kal Bonnesen; his siblings, Kathy Gabrielson and Gary Ites; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ken and Mary Hansen; and his cats, Muffin and Precious.

The Ites family wishes to thank ComForCare Home Care, Harlingen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Valley Baptist Medical Center, and most of all, the Harlingen VA Outpatient Clinic for their compassionate care.

Jon’s family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1406 E. Ave., Harlingen, Texas.

Honorary pallbearers are Rodney Fink, Michael Jackson, George Wagman, Leonard Lopez, Adrian Perez, and Sam Cardenas.
