Jorge G. Montenegro

Mr. Jorge G. Montenegro, known affectionately as "Choche", "Chochito", and "Puppy Love", peacefully passed away on May 12, 2024 in Harlingen, Texas at the age of 64. He was born on October 14, 1959, in Arkansas and resided primarily in Los Indios, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jorge A. Montenegro and Hilda G. Montenegro, two infant brothers, and one infant niece. 

Mr. Montenegro is survived by his devoted wife of 16 years, Micaela Montenegro; three sisters Diana Muñoz (Felix), Hilda Montenegro, Ofelia Montenegro; one brother Ruben G. Montenegro (Alicia); nieces and nephews Ruben Montenegro Jr., Michelle Lopez, Rigoberto Montenegro, Felix Munoz Jr., Fredrick Muñoz, Frank Ibarra, Ferdinand Muñoz, Danielle Perez, Fellippe Muñoz; sister-in-law Victoria Montenegro; and niece Victoria Lopez.

Fondly remembered for his sense of humor and storytelling abilities, Mr. Montenegro was a cherished individual whose jokes and laughter will forever resonate with those who knew him. He co-owned and subsequently retired from Montenegro & Sons Paving after dedicating 37 years working alongside his father and brother. A music enthusiast with a passion for singing and dancing along with playing the accordion, he also enjoyed scratching lottery tickets and leisurely cruising around Los Indios.  His favorite song was "Puppy Love". Mr. Montenegro spent valuable time mentoring his nephews in the intricacies of their shared profession.

In his final years, he received exceptional care from his sister Coya until his last breath. For the past 16 years of his life, he found companionship and love with Micaela by his side whom he adored deeply. Mr. Jorge G. Montenegro will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family will welcome friends and family for a visitation on Wednesday, May 15, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.  A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock Wednesday evening.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.  at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Las Rucias.  Following the Mass, Jorge will be laid to rest at Gomez Cemetery in Los Indios.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Fellippe Munoz, Ferdinand Munoz, Frank Ibarra, Ruben G. Montenegro, Ruben Montenegro Jr., Rigoberto A. Montenegro, and Ethan K. Chancey.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Juan Maldonado and the staff at Sun Valley Rehabilitation, and Dr. Juan Garza for their special care.
