José Benavidez

José Benavidez, of Los Fresnos, Texas, passed away April 26, 2023 at the age of seventy-eight. He was born to the late Ignacio Benavidez and Anita Rodriguez Benavidez in El Calaboz, Texas.

José was a licensed pest control technician. He was employed by Esparza Pest Control and later by Harlingen CISD Maintenance Department from where he retired after many years of dedicated service.

In his leisure time, Jose enjoyed fishing for catfish, gardening, and anything having to do with the great outdoors. He was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. He loved volunteering at his parish and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

José is preceded in death by his loving wife, Guadalupe Benavidez: son, Roberto Benavidez, Jr.; parents, Ignacio and Anita R. Benavidez; brothers, Roberto Benavidez, Guillermo Benavidez, and Eduardo Benavidez.

Left to treasure his memory are his children, Adrian Benavidez and Isaura Figueroa; grandchildren, Aaron Nicolas Benavidez, Andrew Jacob Benavidez, Victor Figueroa, and Oscar Figueroa. José is also survived by his siblings, Rumaldo (Patricia) Benavidez, Ernestina Martinez, and María Cervantes of California.

The Benavidez family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin Thursday evening at 7 o’clock. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Following the Mass, José will be laid to rest at Los. Cuates Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Aaron Benavidez, Andrew Benavidez, Adrian Benavidez, Oscar Figueroa, Jacob Ethan Figueroa, Victor Figueroa, Saul Garcia, Eran Michael Martinez, and Joaquin Alejandro Martinez. Ruben Campos and Eleno Martinez will serve as honorary pallbearers.
