Jose "Joe" Francisco Farias, Sr., 86, of Harlingen, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026. Born on August 16, 1939, in San Benito, Texas, to Dionicio and Lidia Farias.
A proud graduate of San Benito High School, Joe honorably served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard during the Cuban Crisis, achieving the rank of SP5 E5 (P). Following his military service, he built a successful career as a Pressroom Superintendent for the Corpus Christi Caller Times, also contributing his talents to the San Antonio Express News and the Houston Chronicle.
A devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, Joe was a man of deep faith throughout his life. In his leisure time, he found joy in hunting and fishing.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Dionicio and Lidia Farias, and his siblings: Guilevaldo Farias Sr., Dora Farias, Arminda Mancillas, Emma Farias, and Arnoldo Farias Sr. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Farias; his children, Ana Farias Mooney and Joe Farias, Jr.; his grandchildren, Aaron Mooney, Jena Vernon (Tyler), and Blake Mooney (Jessica); as well as his great-grandchildren, Charlie Vernon and Ava Mooney. He is also survived by his siblings, Elena Perez, Dionicio Farias Jr., Hilda Chapa, and Viola Martinez.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Arnoldo Farias Jr. for his unwavering care and support during Joe’s time of need.
The Farias family will receive friends and family on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Joe will be laid to rest with full military honors at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Aaron Mooney, Blake Mooney, Tyler Vernon, Rafael Farias, David Farias Sr., and Guilevaldo Farias Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Vernon and Ava Mooney.
