Josefina Mendieta

Josefina Mendieta peacefully passed from this life on August 23, 2021 at the age of 89.  She was born to the late Jesús Rangel and Mauricia De la Cerda de Rangel on June 10, 1932 in Montemorelos, Nuevo León, México.

Becoming a U.S. citizen was an accomplishment of which she was overjoyed.  She was an avid gardener who was gifted with an amazing “green thumb”. Daily she tended to her many plants and flowers and was always excited to see her plants bloom. She enjoyed bird watching, caring for her pet parakeets, lovebirds, and doves, cooking, coloring, and collecting items that she liked.

Josefina loved the visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always had a wonderful smile for everyone she met.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Josefina’s husband, Francisco Mendieta; son, Rodolfo Mendieta; and daughter, María Mendieta preceded her in death.

Left to treasure her memory is her family whom she raised with unconditional love: her children, Guadalupe Stout (Fred), Esmeralda Stout (Jack), Francisco Mendieta, Jr. (Laura), Reynaldo Mendieta, Rosalinda Mendieta, Lionel Mendieta (Rebecca), Susana Mendieta, Corina Villarreal (Javier), Jesús Mendieta (Leticia), Enedelia Mendieta, Alejandro Mendieta (Rachel), Florestela Mendieta (Hector Ramos), and Raymundo Mendieta; and 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

The Mendieta family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Chapel A of Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.  The Rev. Fr. On Friday, August 27, 2021, visitation will continue from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Chapel B of Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Los Fresnos with Rev. Fr. Pedro Briseño, Celebrant. Following the Mass, Josefina will be laid to rest at Los Cuates Cemetery in Los Fresnos.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Francisco Mendieta, Jr., Arnie Hernandez II, Zachary Lee Ramos, Jesús Mendieta, Jr., Justin James Mendieta, Austin James Stout, and Alejandro Mendieta.  Raymundo Mendieta, Fred Stout, Jack Stout, Arturo Casas, Javier Villarreal, and Hector Ramos will serve as honorary pallbearers.
