Julio Charles peacefully passed from this life on April 20, 2021 at 89 years of age. He was born in Harlingen, Texas on April 6, 1932 to Lino and Agustina Charles.
Julio was best known in Harlingen and the surrounding area as the owner of the ever-popular Las Vegas Café. He owned and operated the restaurant, meeting and greeting his regular customers as well as first-time guests, for 57 years until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lino and Agustina Charles; his brothers, Gilbert, George, and Braublio Charles; and sisters, Rosie Charles and Gracie Lozano.
Left to treasure Julio’s memory and legacy is his loving wife, Eloina M. Charles; his children, Bettye (Osvaldo) Sosa, Lori (Duke) Davila, Julie Charles, Julio Albert (Catherine) Charles; grandchildren, Lizette Williams, Armando Anthony Posada, Lauren A. Posada, Klarisa A. Posada, Derek Davila, Samuel Davila, Marisa Y. Davila, Maximilian F. Charles; and his siblings, Lino Charles Jr., Rudy Charles, Francis C. Rodriguez, Alicia Rivera, Fela Rivas, Mary Morales, Yolanda Gonzalez, and Mary Ester Rodriguez.
The family is thankful to the medical staff at Valley Baptist Medical Center and especially Julio’s personal physician, Dr. Timothy Bothwell, MD for their care and compassion.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock on Sunday evening. (Click the link below to view a live-stream of the Holy Rosary.)
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Harlingen. Following the Mass, Julio will be laid to rest at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Osvaldo Sosa, Duke Davila, Cirilo Rodriguez Jr., Steve Charles, Julio A. Charles, Anthony Posada, Derek Davila, and Rolando Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers are Samuel Davila and Maximilian Charles.
All expressions of sympathy, including floral tributes, memorial donations to a favorite charity, and cards are welcome.
