Leonila H. García, age 92, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, in Rosenberg, Texas. She was born on March 23, 1933, in San Benito, Texas, she was the loving daughter of Encarnacion and Juanita Hernandez.
Leonila proudly graduated from San Benito High School in 1950, where she was an active member of the band, playing the French horn, and participated in tennis. She dedicated 42 years of her professional life to the San Benito Bank and Trust Co., where she began as a bookkeeper and advanced through various roles, ultimately retiring as the Assistant Vice President.
A devoted member of the San Benito Presbyterian Church, she held various roles, including Church Treasurer, Deaconess, and Sunday School teacher, and participated actively in the Church Choir and the Women’s Group. In her leisure time, she found joy in walking and crafting, and she was an avid fan of the Houston Astros.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Evaristo García, her sister Eva Trevino (Raul), her brother Ruben Hernandez, and her brother-in-law, Xavier Barrera. Leonila is survived by her children, Evaristo Chris García Jr. (Becky) and Bitsy G. Mendoza (Felix); her grandchildren Aaron S. Garcia (Jill), Omar D. García (Vicki), John Matthew Mendoza, and Ben D. Mendoza (Jenn); and her great-grandchildren Corbin J. García, Caleb A. García, Josiah A. García, Asher L. García, Eli J. García, Gabriel I. García, Seth E. García, Madeline G. García, Roman S. García, Mia M. Mendoza, and Lilyana L. Mendoza. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Orpha O. Barrera.
Leonila’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Onome Odojor, Three Oaks Hospice, and Kris Cervantes and the team from Remarkable Hospice for their compassionate care.
The García family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home, with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Aaron García, Matt Mendoza, Ben Mendoza, Corbin García, Caleb García, and Josiah García.
