It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lidia M. Garcia, age 59. Lidia was born on August 7, 1966, in Harlingen, Texas, to Secundino and Nidia S. Mata. Following a lengthy and courageous battle with illness, she passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, surrounded by her sons.

Lidia will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, quick wit, and remarkable sense of humor. She had an extraordinary gift for delivering perfectly timed jokes that brought laughter to every gathering. Fearlessly authentic, she never apologized for being exactly who she was. She lived boldly, loved deeply, and spoke with honesty and conviction. Her legacy is one of laughter, resilience, and the enduring reminder to embrace life with courage and remain true to oneself. Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, the countless memories she created will continue to bring comfort and smiles to all who knew and loved her. Our world is a little quieter and a lot less interesting without her in it.

Lidia dedicated 36 years of faithful service to the San Benito Consolidated Independent School District. She spent the majority of her career as an administrative assistant at San Benito High School, where she was respected by colleagues, staff, and students alike for her dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment.

She retired in June 2023, leaving behind a lasting impact on the school community she served with pride.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonel Obed "Boy" Garcia; her parents, Secundino and Nidia S. Mata; her in-laws, Francisco Leonel and Estella Garcia; her sister-in-law, Blanca Estella Garcia; her niece, Victoria A. De La Rosa; and her great-nephew, Samuel Mata.

Lidia is survived by her loving sons, Leonel Obed (Bianca) Garcia, Jr. and LeRoy Obed Garcia; her cherished grandchildren, Arturo Ramirez and Lilliana M. Garcia; her siblings, Secundino (Linda) Mata, Jr., Silvia Mata, Sulema (Rene) Rodriguez, Sonia (Joe) Parra, and Sandra Mata; her sister-in-law, Melissa (Hector) Galvan; her nephews and nieces, Sergio (Priscilla) Mata, David Mares, Jr., Samantha Mares, Joey (Yvette) Mares, Zeke Mares, Stephanie Rodriguez (Fabian), Stacie (David) Alaniz, Sabrina Rodriguez (Alex), Joe S. Parra, Joshua Parra, Joseph Parra, David A. Ybarra, Carolyn Ybarra, and Saul Munoz; her great-nephews, Domonic De Leon, Jude Mares, Joey Mares, Jr., and David Eric Alaniz, Jr.; her great-nieces, April Mata, Alexandra (Keith) Corkill, Kaitlyn Pena, Kallie Mata, and Mariana Mares.

She also leaves behind numerous extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were enriched by her kindness, unwavering love, and unforgettable sense of humor.

The Garcia family will receive friends and family on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Lidia will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
