Lieutenant Milton G. Resendez

Lt. Milton Gabriel Resendez, 54, passed October 17, 2023 doing what he loved to do, protecting and serving his hometown of San Benito, Texas. He was a twenty-six veteran of the San Benito Police Department.

Milton was a proud graduate of San Benito High School. He attended Texas Southmost College and the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council Police Academy. Before joining SBPD, Milton was employed by the Brownsville Police Department, Palm Valley Police Department, and the San Benito CISD Police Department.

He was an avid comic book and toy collector, movie buff, and enjoyed gardening. He also enjoyed watching his favorite NFL teams, the Pittsburg Steelers and the Houston Texans, as well as watching WWE wrestling and love to listen to music and enjoyed his favorite band KISS.

Milton was born September 2, 1969 to Meliton and Susana M. Resendez, who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Meliton, Sr. and Paulina Resendez; his maternal grandparents, Miguel and Guadalupe B. Serrato; and his father-in-law, Ernesto Garcia, Sr.

Left to treasure Milton’s memory is his loving wife, Melissa G. Resendez whom he met while attending Texas Southmost College and spent twenty-seven years of marriage to the love of his life; his siblings, José De Los Santos Serrato (Olga Mejía), Terry Bell (Paul), Mauricio Resendez, Xavier Resendez, and Jacqueline S. Resendez; numerous nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his godchildren, Calista Reyes, Daniela Andrade, Kristina Cardenas, Valerie Garcia, Aubree Loa, Dulce Garcia, Adolfo Rodriguez III, Markus Garcia, Elijah Gonzalez, Amanda Serrato, and Michelle Serrato; and his faithful pets, Koko, Myka, Princess Mia, Dobby, Emma, Alley, Snoopy, and Dolly.

Special thanks to the City of San Benito, and Milton’s Brothers and Sisters in Blue of the San Benito Police Department and the surrounding law enforcement agencies.

The Resendez family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the ABC Event Center in San Benito, Texas. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Milton will be laid to rest at San Benito Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Lt. Carlos Andrade, Lt. Isaac Vasquez, Sgt. Eric Trevino, Sgt. Justin Kemmerling, Officer Oscar Leal, Officer Roman Lopez, Officer Ariel Villafranca, and Officer Mario Valdez Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be SBPD Chief of Police Mario Perea, Sgt. Albert Reyes, Capt. Michael Cortez, Lt. Raul Rodriguez (retired), and Lt. Lupi Andrade.
