Margarita “Mage” Rosales Cerecedo, 96, a lifelong resident of San Benito, Texas, entered into eternal rest on February 10, 2026, at Valley Baptist Medical Center, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on March 13, 1929, to Crispin Soto Rosales and Juanita Castillo Rosales.
Margarita was one of ten siblings, with eight brothers and one sister: the late (†) Crispin Castillo Rosales Jr., (†) Israel Castillo Rosales, (†) Abel Castillo Rosales, (†) Erasmo Castillo Rosales, (†) Maria Rosales Segura, and (†) Pepe Castillo Rosales; and her surviving brothers, Guillermo Castillo Rosales, Mauro Castillo Rosales, and Jesus Castillo Rosales.
A true matriarch, Margarita’s life was a testament to love, strength, sacrifice, and faith. She knew the value of hard work from an early age, raising her family while continuing her education. She earned her cosmetology license and became a dedicated cosmetologist for more than 40 years. From her home in San Benito, she proudly operated “Margarita’s Beauty Shop,” where she served generations of loyal clients and built lasting friendships.
Margarita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. To those who loved her most, she was affectionately known as “Yaya.” Her life was deeply rooted in faith, family, and a spirit of generosity toward others. She is now at peace, reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Arturo Ostoa Cerecedo, and her son, Arturo Rosales Cerecedo Jr.
She is survived by her loving children: Juanita Cerecedo Cavazos (Hector), Yolanda Margarita Boyce (the late Bud), Maria Norma Cerecedo de Guzman (the late Rolando Poblete), Margaret Marie Mendez and Crispin Cerecedo.
She was the proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, each of whom carries forward her legacy of love and resilience.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 19, 2026, and Friday, February 20, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. each evening. A Mass of Catholic Faith will be celebrated on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in San Benito, Texas.
Those honored to serve as active pallbearers are Crispin Cerecedo, Hector Hugo Cavazos, Jeremy Rolando Mendez, Elijah Esequiel Cavazos, Dylan Cavazos, and Daniel Cavazos.
Margarita will be remembered as a strong, faithful, caring, and loving woman—a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Though she has entered eternal rest, her love and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her and in the many generations she leaves behind.
