Marian Oliver, age 84, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, in Harlingen, Texas. Born on March 13, 1941, in Charleston, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Don Green and Zelma Onieta Neal Green.
Marian earned her Master’s Degree in Library Science from A & I Kingsville and dedicated 30 years of her career to the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District, where she retired. She also held a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Library certification
A valued member of various professional organizations, Marian was actively involved with the Texas State Teachers Association (TSTA), Alpha Delta Kappa, the Harlingen Retired Association, and the Palm Society of South Texas. Her faith was an important aspect of her life, and she attended both the Lighthouse Fellowship and St. Albans Episcopal Church in Harlingen.
Marian had a passion for travel, exploring diverse destinations including South America, England, France, Spain, the Rhine River, Portugal, the Mediterranean, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Brazil, Mexico, and Hawaii.
She is preceded in death her parents, Onieta Green and Donald Green, and her uncle, Edward Green. Marian is survived by her loving husband, Luke P. Oliver; her niece, Teresa Duveneck (Steve); her nephews, Donald Wilson (Laura), Chase Wilson, David Wilson, Clay Duveneck, Lee Duveneck, Jason Oliver (Michelle); and her brother-in-law, Frank Oliver.
The Oliver family will hold a gathering for friends and family on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marian’s memory to Friends of the Harlingen Public Library, 410 ‘76 Drive, Harlingen, Texas 78550.
