Moises G. Garza

July 6, 1932 — April 6, 2022

Moisés G. Garza peacefully passed from this life on Thursday, April 6, 2022 at 89 years of age.  He was born to the late Moisés Castillo Garza and Josefina Guajardo Garza on July 6, 1932 in San Benito, Texas.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army, Second Light Artillery, during the Korean War and attained the rank of Corporal.

Moisés retired from the United States Department of Agriculture after 32 years of dedicated service. In May 1981, he received the Unit Award for Distinguished Service by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture John R. Block for outstanding public service in developing rearing procedures for parasites of the citrus blackfly, releasing parasites in Florida and Texas, and demonstrating the feasibility of biological control of citrus blackflies.

In his leisure time, Moisés enjoyed the outdoors, tending to his plants, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Moisés was preceded in death by his loving wife, Andrea H. Garza, who passed in October 2010.

Left to treasure his memory are his children, Cindy Garza, Moisés Garza III, and Gloria Garza (Jesús); grandchildren, Crystal Garcia (Isidoro), Jennifer Lee, Christopher Reyna (Danielle), Ricardo Espino, Jr., Hilarie Garza, Ares Mosley; great-grandchildren, Aaron Garcia Jr., Kayla Garcia, Alyson Bermúdez, Rafael Bermúdez Jr., Aden Reyna, Giovanni Reyna, Tyler Martinez, Katelyn Martinez, Lauryn Martinez, Avery Reyna, Penelope Juliet Garza; and great great-grandchildren, Madison Rae Garcia, and Matteo Moisés Garcia.

The Garza family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, April 11, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.  A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 6:30 p.m. (Click the link below to view a livestream of the recitation of the Holy Rosary.)

On Tuesday, April 12, 2022, a Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in Chapel A of Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. (Click the link below to view a livestream of the Funeral Liturgy.)

Following the service, family and friends will depart the funeral home in procession to Mont Meta Memorial Park where Moisés will be laid to rest with full military honors. (Click the link below to view a livestream of the Rite of Committal and rendering of military honors.)
