MSgt (ret) Raymond G. Scheuer

December 24, 1950 — July 24, 2021

MSgt (ret) Raymond George “Ray” Scheuer, 70, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at his home in San Benito, Texas.

Ray was born December 24, 1950, to parents Cyril and Helen Scheuer in Marshfield, Wisconsin.  After graduating Columbus Catholic High School in 1970, Ray joined the United States Air Force.  He honorably served for 23.5 years including assignments in Vietnam, North Carolina, Minnesota, South Korea, Arizona, California, Alaska, Massachusetts, Idaho, Berlin Germany, and South Carolina.  He served as an Aerospace Control and Warning Systems Operator and Training Manager for much of his career.  Ray was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal in 1971 for his service during the Vietnam War.  He was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal upon his retirement.  Upon his retirement he became a member of Disabled American Veterans.  Ray met and married Iva Fisher in 1973 while they were both stationed in Duluth, Minnesota.  Ray was a loving family man who loved his country.  His friends and family often described him as a funny, genuine and loyal man who marched to the tune of his own drum - the kind of guy you always called when you needed help. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Thomas Scheuer, and brother-in-law, Gordon Rogers.

Ray is survived by his wife of 47 years, Iva; daughter, Kathryn (Todd) Hopper; and granddaughter, Meredith Corene Hopper.  He is also survived by his siblings John (LucyAnn) Scheuer, William (Mary) Scheuer, Kenneth Scheuer, Lois Rogers, James (Mary Lang) Scheuer, and Jean Scheuer; sister-in-law, Kathleen Scheuer; and many nieces and nephews.

Per his wishes, Ray was cremated and will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date.  End of life arrangements are being handled by Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home, San Benito, Texas.  In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family has requested donations be made in Ray’s name to Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org), the American Heart Association (www.heart.org), or the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.com).
