Nidia S. Mata

Nidia S. Mata, 84, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, in Harlingen, Texas. She was born on May 1, 1941, in Soliseño, Tamaulipas, Mexico, to Rodolfo Solis and Catarina Garcia.

A dedicated housewife and mother, Nidia was also a successful businesswoman who managed her businesses and rental properties for 31 years.

A devout member of the Catholic faith, Nidia was known for her passion and dedication, which was particularly evident in her award-winning yard. She found joy in spending time at “therapy” (the maquinitas) and cherished her moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Nidia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Secundino Mata; her parents; her siblings, Ruben, Gloria, Eleazar “Toro,” Federico, and Angelica Solis; as well as her grandchildren, Samuel Mata and Victoria de la Rosa; her son-in-law, Lionel Obed Garcia; and her great-grandson, Samuel Mata.

She is survived by her children, Secundino Mata Jr. (Rosalinda), Sylvia Mata, Sulema Rodriguez (Rene), Lidia Garcia (Lionel “Boy”), Sonia Parra (Joe), and Sandra Mata. Nidia also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

The Mata family will welcome friends and relatives on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in San Benito. Nidia will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park following the Mass.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Sergio Mata, David Mares Jr., Joey Parra, David A. Ybarra, Leonel Obed Garcia Jr., Leroy Garcia, Joey Mares Jr., and Domonic de Leon. Honorary pallbearers include Jose Mares, Exiquio Mares, Joshua Parra, and Joseph Parra.
