Norma A. Longoria

December 5, 1955 — June 4, 2026

Norma A. Longoria passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, at the age of 70.

Born on December 5, 1955, in San Benito, Texas, Norma was the daughter of Arturo R. Escobedo and Ernestina V. Escobedo. Raised alongside seven siblings in a migrant worker family, she learned early the values of hard work, resilience, and perseverance. Those qualities would guide her throughout her life. She graduated from San Benito High School and later earned her Associate's Degree, reflecting the importance she placed on education and personal growth.

Norma dedicated her life to teaching as a Montessori educator, where she spent decades nurturing young minds and encouraging children to believe in themselves. She had a special place in her heart for the underdog and found joy in watching children learn and grow. Her classrooms were filled with creativity, warmth, and imagination. Whether decorating a classroom, creating gifts for her students, or sewing her own prom dresses as a young woman, Norma had a gift for turning simple materials into something beautiful. She firmly believed that with enough creativity and determination, almost anything could be made by hand.

Strong-willed by nature, Norma possessed remarkable strength. She was known for her knowing looks, quick wit, and perfectly timed remarks that could leave her family laughing for days. Whenever someone claimed they couldn't find something, she would often ask, “Are your eyes lying to you?”

In 1980, Norma met the love of her life, Leonel Longoria, through their shared love of softball. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and unwavering devotion. They took great pride in their home and property, spending countless hours planting trees, working on projects, and enjoying time outdoors. One of their favorite pastimes was sitting together to watch Survivor, a tradition they enjoyed for many years. In true Norma fashion, she made sure to stay with us long enough to watch the Season 50 finale.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonel L. Longoria; her loyal dog, Holiday; her parents, Arturo and Ernestina Escobedo; her sister, Gloria Alvarez; and her brothers Arturo Escobedo and Samuel Escobedo.

Norma is survived by her daughters: Tanya Longoria (Jose Luis Rodriguez), Patricia Garza (Eduardo Garza), and Elisa Longoria (Trung Nguyen). She was a loving and devoted grandmother to Lucas Garza and Lily Garza, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. Nothing made her smile brighter than time spent with her grandchildren.

Norma is also survived by her siblings, numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family.

In 2025, Norma was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer. True to the way she lived her entire life, she faced every challenge with extraordinary courage. She endured chemotherapy, a highly complex surgery, and countless treatments with unwavering determination. Even when confronted with hardships that would have caused many to surrender, giving up was never an option she considered.

Norma taught her family the value of education and choosing quality over quantity. She loved deeply, gave generously, and lived with a strength that inspired everyone around her. Though she will be missed beyond measure, her legacy lives on in the family she cherished.

A force of nature until the very end, Norma never backed down from life's challenges. Her strength, humor, and unwavering spirit will live on in the family she loved so fiercely.

The Longoria family will receive friends and family on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 4:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
