Odilia Ramirez

Maria Odilia Torres Ramirez, 93, passed peacefully on November 28, 2023 in Olmito, Texas.  She was born to the late Jose Torres and Petra Escobedo on September 10, 1931 in Capote, Mexico.

Odilia was of the Catholic faith and was an employee of San Benito Nursing Home and Harlingen Nursing Home, where she was employed as a cook.

In her leisure time Odilia enjoyed making tamales, playing Bingo, cooking, watching old movies and she had a great sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jose Torres Farrias; her mother, Petra Escobedo; her husband, Isabel Ramirez; her sisters, Elida Rodriguez, Refugia Salinas, Guadalupe Basaldua; sons, Robert Ramirez and Leonardo Martinez Jr.; and her brother, Albino Torres.

Left to treasure Odilia’s memory are her children, Gracie Cantu (Joe), Norma Torres (Theresa), Irene Maldonado (Rene), Raquel de la Rosa, Virginia Ramirez, Carmen Velasquez (Melee), Patty Pequeño (Orlando), Rafael Ramirez (Rosie), Roy Ramirez (Mica), and Rene Ramirez; 30 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; her sister, Maria Escobedo; and her brothers, Juan Escobedo and Jose Guadalupe Torres.

The family would like to thank Calida Home Health, Valley Baptist Medical Center, and Sunshine Haven for their care.

The Ramirez family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.  A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock Sunday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church.  Following the Mass, Odilia will be laid to rest at San Benito Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Michael Ramirez, Raymond Ramirez, Ruben Maldonado, Chris Tamayo, Tony de la Rosa and Jeremy Pequeño.
